Canoeing and Kayaking in the Glenbeigh / Rossbeigh Area
Glenbeigh is the perfect place for the adventure seeker. It is the ideal destination for canoeing on the flats of the Caragh River, or for sea/surf kayaking on the river or on Rossbeigh Beach.
The Lower Caragh is lake-fed and runs from Lough Caragh to the sea in Dingle Bay. Expect an enjoyable and continuous whitewater experience for a distance of about 2.6km.
The Upper Caragh is probably one of best grade 3 rivers in Ireland with the occasional stretch of grade 4. This river requires plenty of recent rain to bring it up. It’s a 4.2km run with a gradient of approximately 8 m/km.
Once you have some basic kayaking skills, it’s time to move onto some more exciting water. The Atlantic waves rolling in on Rossbeigh Strand provide an exciting dimension to surf kayaking.
