Rossbeigh Beach is among 13 Blue Flag beaches in the county for 2015 which were announced today by the Minister for the Environment.
Minister Alan Kelly was in Ballinskelligs for the unveiling of the annual list of beaches which represent excellence in water quality and the environment.
The storms in January and February of 2014 wreaked havoc along the Kerry coastline but particularly at Rossbeigh.
The damage done at Rossbeigh meant that at the time of adjudication for last year’s Blue Flag awards, significant repair works were underway at the beach.
This year however, An Taisce, which carries out the judging of beaches every year, confirmed that Rossbeigh has regained its Blue Flag status.
Blue Flags are retained this year at White Strand, Ventry, Maharabeg, Kells, Inch and Ballinskelligs.
Ballynunion North and South are also on the list as are Ballyheigue, Fenit, Banna and Derrynane.
At the announcement in Ballinskelligs this afternoon, Minister Alan Kelly also confirmed that Béal Bán strand in west Kerry has retained its Green Coast award for this year.
